Objective: To commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic 1893 address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago (famously beginning with “Sisters and Brothers of America”). Also referred to as Universal Brotherhood Day, it honours his enduring message of religious tolerance, harmony, and the introduction of Indian philosophy and spirituality to the global stage.
2. National Forest Martyrs Day 2026

Observing Organisation: Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India (instituted in 2013)
Objective: To honour the forest personnel, rangers, and conservationists who laid down their lives defending India’s forests, wildlife, and ecological heritage. The date commemorates the historic 1730 Khejarli massacre in Rajasthan, where Amrita Devi and 362 fellow members of the Bishnoi community sacrificed their lives to protect sacred Khejri trees from being felled.
3. World First Aid Day 2026

Observing Organisation: International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
Objective: To raise global awareness about the critical importance of basic first aid skills in saving lives and preventing health deterioration during emergencies before medical professionals arrive. It encourages communities to undergo proper lifesaving training.
Theme: “First Aid in Migration Contexts” (highlighting the need for accessible emergency care and first aid knowledge among migrants and displaced populations).
4. International Day for South-South Cooperation 2026
Observed Date: September 12
Observing Organisation: United Nations (UN)
Objective: To highlight the economic, social, and political developments achieved by regions and countries in the Global South, and to promote ongoing technical and economic collaboration among developing nations. It commemorates the 1978 adoption of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action (BAPA) for promoting and implementing technical cooperation among developing countries.
5. International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies 2026
Observed Date: September 7
Observing Organisation: United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
Objective: To emphasize the critical need to improve air quality for human health and environmental sustainability, promote international cooperation, and strengthen global, national, and local actions against air pollution (officially designated by the UNGA in 2019).
